About Heidi
Aloha, I'm an award-winning multimedia journalist who covers Hawaii and the Pacific Rim for audio, video, print and digital media.
My work has aired on many networks and shows including NPR, "The World," Voice of America, "Living on Earth,""Marketplace," "Weekend America," "Here & Now," PBS, AP Radio, ABC Radio, KQED’s “Pacific Time," the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and PRX podcasts. I've also written for outlets ranging from NBC News and the Associated Press to the Los Angeles Times.
I cover everything from breaking news to the environment and arts and culture. Recently, my NPR story Edith Kanaka'ole is the first Hawaiian woman to grace a U.S. quarter won a 2024 Excellence in Audio Storytelling, News Feature Award from the Asian American Journalists Association.
I began my journalism career as a TV reporter at stations around the country, and as a news anchor, host and reporter at Hawaii Public Radio. As a SAG-AFTRA actor and voice talent, I've worked on many TV shows, films and documentaries.
I live in Honolulu, where I got my start in the media as a radio personality hosting shows featuring jazz, rock, pop, R&B and Hawaiian music. I also hosted shows on the San Francisco Bay Area airwaves at KBLX "The Quiet Storm," part of the Inner City Broadcasting Corporation, and KCSM Jazz 91. (Scroll down to see links to my audio stories below.)
I've done tape syncs and field recording for a variety of outlets ranging from the British Broadcasting Corporation to ESPN and the New York Times. And I've also freelanced as a field producer for ABC's "Good Morning America" and other media.
