About M Cristina
I am indigenous of Sardinia (Italy), an island with unreliable and expensive connections. This insularity pushed me to travel from an early age, searching for an otherness that I sensed existed, but that I was unable to see at home. I lived ten years in Germany and over 20 years in Australia before relocating back to my Island.
Moving through countries and cultures, I became intrigued by the relation between memories and place, noticing how memories shape every new place we visit. From there, I occupied myself exploring how sound shapes memories, space, and sense of place and belonging.
I was lucky to find myself in the right place (working at a national radio broadcaster in an English-speaking country) at the right moment (when people started talking about podcasts), which allowed me to experiment with the power of immersive sound narratives to evoke personal and collective experiences.
Now an independent producer, when I'm not playing the hustle game, I use my time collaborating with fellow creators worldwide, here some examples:
- Phoebe McIndoe's Small Audio Art
- Stuart Fowkes’ project Cities and Memory
- Audio Playground by Sarah Geis
- Bagni Lucia by Radio Papesse
- All The Best of the Australian broadcaster FBI Radio
I love collaborating with friends, and I also love talking to strangers, drop me a line if you want to chat!
Here is my animated Portfolio of sounds. It wasn't easy to find a way to create a portfolio of sounds, took me a while, but it was worth it.
Now allow me to brag about some of the prizes and recognitions that I collected along the way
- Winner of the Leipziger Hörspielsommer 2024 for My Non Arrival, an audio creation inspired by the poetry of Wisława Szymborska
- Winner of the MemoRAS Contest 2024 for Su Tempiesu, an audio creation inspired by a visit to the Sardinian sacred spring
- Finalist at Audio Flux Circuit 04 in 2024 with I Am The First, Audio Flux ran an open call for public submissions, my work was selected as one of the 15 finalists

"Add one last sound effect: the hollow sound of immoral politicians who have been enabling the rambling of a sick mind, followed by a sigh that gradually fades to the sound of democracy that refuses to die."
This incantation is my way of feeling less powerless in the face of atrocities perpetrated by ICE.
A swirl of sounds and sensations, listening to this piece is like entering a circus, but instead of clowns and illusionists you'll find: libraries, librarian child-abuse, thunders, revenge, dark nights, betrayal, tax fraud (just a little bit), more thunders, Berlin in the '80s, translations, revenge, triumph, cautionary tales.
Disclaimer: no books were harmed in the making of this piece.
Awarded Transom's Small, Random, Meaningful.
Special Mention at the Australian Black Snapper International Film Festival (Audio section).
Communicating science and technology clearly today is very important because the spread on the internet does not reward content supported by scientific evidence but rather those that best know how to polarize, outrage, and scandalise, even better if using slogans easy to share on social media.
This is why it is important to find innovative ways to bring people closer to science, not to explain, but at least at first, to communicate the very existence of scientific concepts. This was my starting point in creating ten podcasts inspired by as many scientific articles.
"Add one last sound effect: the hollow sound of immoral politicians who have been enabling the rambling of a sick mind, followed by a sigh that gradually fades to the sound of democracy that refuses to die."

Variations in Memory Flat [bilingual Italian and English - videos with Italian & English subtitles below], is a quiet reflection on childhood memories, caught in two languages in a kitchen, between big moments of joy and small, unexpected sadness.
This is the final outcome of my participation in THE ECCO, unveiled at the ((XMTR)) Festival.
This is my very first commissioned piece in German, published on Deutschanldfunk Kultur's Doku Drops, a monthly audio magazine curated and moderated by Judith Geffert and Ingo Kottkamp, featuring short documentary pieces.
In my piece, Da ist dieser Moment (There is this moment), I explore that fleeting, endless moment of waiting, the pause between dialling a phone number and hearing the other side pick up.
What seems like nothing on the outside opens up an entire universe of thoughts, feelings, and possibilities on the inside.
A smell that all of a sudden takes you to a different time. Has it ever happened to you? It happens to me every time that I smell naphtha, motor oil. Memories have a subtle way of overcoming you with unexpected glimpses of past times.
