About Sam
Kia ora (hello)! My name is Sam Donkin and I work as a radio and podcast producer in Auckland, New Zealand.
I graduated from the New Zealand Broadcasting School in 2023 with a Bachelors in Radio Broadcasting. Since 2024 I have been the executive producer of the podcast Sunday Sanctuary with Petra Bagust. This show, which adapts the format of a liturgical church service for spiritual seekers, was a finalist for Best Society & Culture Podcast and the New Zealand Radio and Podcast Awards in 2026. In July of 2026, I attended the Transom Traveling Workshop in Amherst, Massachusetts.
I love not sitting at my desk! So if you have any work in this part of the world, get in touch! My favourite thing is getting out into the world to follow fascinating people around with a microphone and a list of questions.
Some other shows I have worked on include Grey Areas with Petra Bagust (x2 time NZRPA winner), The Crazy Kiwi Christmas Kids Show (multiple time New York Festivals winner, most recently a silver in 2026) and two live shows for New Zealand's largest radio network, Newstalk ZB.
Sam's Portfolio
I created this piece at the 2026 Transom Story Workshop in Amherst, Massachusetts. I profiled the Tree Warden of Amherst, Alan Snow.
This podcast adapts the format of a liturgical church service and is targeted to those curious about Christian spirituality. We have hopeful spiritual conversations about our shared humanity. The episode that saw us made a finalist for Best Society & Culture Podcast and the New Zealand Radio and Podcast Awards in 2026 was titled 'Peace✌️'. Other episodes that feature stories I've found include 'Caring for Creation' and 'Redefining Success'.
